GreenShield highlights how integrated care improves access, equity, and health outcomes for Canadians
GreenShield has released its Health Outcomes Report, ‘Measuring Better Health for All,’ presenting insights into the impact of integrating coverage and care.
The report examines healthcare access, equity, and outcomes, emphasizing GreenShield’s role in delivering innovative and integrated health and benefits solutions.
Using data from more than seven million Canadians supported by GreenShield, the report highlights strategies for enhancing healthcare access, mental health support, chronic disease management, and pharmacy care.
According to the report, one in six Canadians—approximately 5.4 million people—lacks a family doctor or nurse practitioner.
GreenShield addresses this gap by providing timely telemedicine appointments that resolve 92 percent of health concerns in the first session. This approach also reduces unnecessary hospital visits, improving access to healthcare professionals.
Mental health issues account for one-third of disability claims and drive 70 percent of workplace disability costs.
Through GreenShield+, the company offers personalized counselling appointments within 24 hours, using an advanced therapist matching tool to address individual needs.
GreenShield Pharmacy is enhancing medication management, ensuring easier access and adherence to prescriptions.
The report notes that GreenShield Pharmacy achieved nine percent higher rates of high-medication adherence compared to other pharmacy providers.
GreenShield’s commitment as a non-profit is evident in its reinvestment strategy. By the end of 2025, the company plans to reinvest $75m to benefit at least one million Canadians.
This funding focuses on mental health, oral health, essential medicines, and chronic disease management.
GreenShield+ simplifies the health and benefits experience by integrating services like telemedicine, pharmacy, chronic disease management, and mental health into a single digital platform.
Employees can access benefits, connect with healthcare providers, and manage claims seamlessly.
Launched in June 2023, GreenShield+ reduces the time Canadians spend navigating healthcare, helping them prioritize their well-being.
Zahid Salman, president and CEO of GreenShield, stated that the Health Outcomes Report demonstrates the company’s commitment to addressing systemic barriers in healthcare.
“As Canada's only national non-profit health and benefits company, we are committed to addressing systemic barriers in access, effectiveness, and equity,” he said.
Salman emphasized that GreenShield’s payer-provider model is driving measurable improvements in healthcare access, equity, and outcomes.
