It will help with expenses in line with fertility treatments, surrogacy, and adoption
Medavie Blue Cross (Medavie), an insurance provider, has announced the creation of the Family Building Benefit that will help eligible individuals with expenses that comes with fertility treatments, surrogacy, and adoption.
“With a mission to improve the wellbeing of Canadians, our aim is to help people access the type of care that best supports their personal needs,” said Shane Reid, director, drug and product management at Medavie.
“The suite of options available within our Family Building Benefit is designed to help individuals and couples access comprehensive and tailored support for their family-building goals,” he added.
Fertility issues is one of the problems couples face in Canada, with one in six couples experiencing infertility. While more 2SLGBTQIA+ Canadians are turning to alternative options such as assisted reproductive technology and adoption to become parents, they are faced with large costs.
The average costs of In vitro fertilization (IVF) ranges between $10,000 to $15,000. Meanwhile, surrogacy expenses can reach up to $80,000 while adoption is at $15,000 per child.
Through the Family Building Benefit, an additional benefit to group plans, employees will be able to receive financial support for fertility treatments that include IVF, surrogacy expenses, adoption fees, and other related expenses.
“Finding ways to support individuals and couples on their journeys to parenthood not only nurtures hope but also provides the opportunity to support choices and enhance overall wellbeing,” said Reid.
“Our focus is creating inclusive, family-friendly benefits that make a real difference,” he added.
