CATA's new campaign urges Canadians to include Athletic Therapy in employee health policy plans
A recent Ipsos survey reveals that almost all Canadians (96 per cent) want employee health insurance plans to cover a range of treatments.
Nine in ten Canadians (89 per cent) would want access to Athletic Therapy if injured and believe it should be added to employee health insurance plans (91 per cent).
The Ipsos survey highlights that almost half of Canadians (47 per cent) have experienced injuries that impede their functionality at work, home, or play.
There is a near-unanimous agreement among Canadians that various forms of physical therapy are essential for maintaining or regaining good physical health, with 96 per cent endorsing this view.
Additionally, 97 per cent of respondents believe it is crucial to have access to personalized treatment plans to recover from injuries as quickly as possible.
Canadians also strongly support the idea that employer health plans should cover a variety of treatments, allowing employees to choose the best option for their recovery, with 96 per cent in agreement.
After being informed about Athletic Therapy, nine in ten Canadians (91 per cent) agree it should be included in employer health insurance plans. Similarly, 92 per cent believe that Athletic Therapy should qualify for a medical expense tax credit, just like other forms of physical therapy.
In response, the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA) is launching a campaign to help ensure this addition happens.
The Move Freely, Live Fully campaign aims to increase access to Athletic Therapy, a form of physical therapy focused on restoring full functionality as quickly as possible for those who have been injured.
Mélanie Levac, executive director of CATA, emphasizes that Athletic Therapy is for everyone who needs to use their body, whether at work, at home, or at play. She explains that while Athletic Therapy is often associated with elite athletes, it is also beneficial for everyday people like moms, friends, and neighbours.
Levac believes, and Canadians agree, that employees should have access to Athletic Therapy as part of a personalized treatment plan covered by their employer benefit plan and claimable on their income taxes.
