Hyundai Auto Canada earns accolade for fostering inclusivity and supporting women's growth
Hyundai Auto Canada (HAC) has set a benchmark in supporting women in the workplace with enhanced benefits, including top-up for 15 weeks of maternity leave payments and expanded insurance plans covering surrogacy, adoption, or IVF treatments.
Recognizing the importance of work-life balance, HAC introduced “Wellness Days,” providing team members ten days to address family needs without impacting vacation days.
This initiative, alongside Flexible Fridays and core business hours, underscores HAC's commitment to accommodating caregivers' schedules, making it an exemplary workplace for women.
This dedication to its employees has earned HAC a spot on the 2024 Best Workplaces for Women list by Great Place to Work, marking the fifth year of recognition. Based on independent analysis and direct team member feedback, the award highlights HAC's efforts in creating an inclusive and sustainable workplace.
“This award is testament to all the incredibly talented women in our organization who help propel our business forward. Our goal as an organization is to have a workplace were everyone thrives on the professional and personal levels,” stated Jennifer Maki, senior manager of Human Resources at HAC.
“We are thankful to our leadership team for sustaining our foundational values of equity and inclusivity in their decisions, and to Great Place to Work for recognizing our commitment to this, which we try to demonstrate in tangible ways every day.”
HAC's initiatives extend beyond internal policies to meaningful external partnerships, such as its role as the first-ever Official Vehicle partner of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL).
This collaboration aligns with HAC's mission to support women in sports and ensure equal representation in all business dealings, further bridging the gender gap.
The company also focuses on sustainable career growth through its Women in Leadership pipeline initiative, significantly increasing the representation of self-identifying women within the organization to 39 percent.
With 50 percent of female national managers (up from 0 in 2018) and 49 percent of new hires being women, HAC has implemented hiring and onboarding strategies to attract, retain, and grow talent.
Efforts include a resume review program and candidate competency assessment methodology to eliminate unconscious bias from the selection process and hosting ‘HACC Attracts’ networking sessions for diverse candidates.
Celebrating the fifth anniversary of its Employee Resource Group (ERG), Women@HAC, the company has facilitated mentorships, volunteer work, and professional development, fostering dialogue for change and empowerment.
Women@HAC also gave rise to Empowering Auto, a non-profit aiming to elevate professional profiles and create networking and mentoring opportunities in the automotive industry.
HAC's consistent recognition as a Great Place to Work since 2017 and its annual appearance on Canada's Best Workplaces list from 2018 onwards underscore its status as a leader in promoting an inclusive and supportive work environment.
