Stalled talks over wages and weekend delivery keep Canada Post strike unresolved on day 20
The Canada Post strike has reached its 20th day, with the business community urging the federal government to step in, according to Financial Post.
The strike involves over 55,000 workers nationwide and has raised concerns from the Retail Council of Canada about the impact on businesses and their employees.
Despite similar interventions in other labour disputes earlier this year, the federal government has so far resisted calls to intervene.
Federal mediation efforts were paused last week as the two sides remained far apart in negotiations.
Canada Post proposed a new framework for reaching agreements over the weekend, but the Canadian Union of Postal Workers stated that key issues, including wages and the expansion of postal services, must be addressed before a deal can be reached.
One contentious point in the negotiations is the push to expand delivery services to weekends, with disagreements over how to implement the changes.
The strike continues to disrupt services, and no immediate resolution appears in sight as the two sides remain at odds.
