CPP Investments appoints Caitlin Gubbels to head global Private Equity as Suyi Kim departs after 17 years
John Graham, president, and CEO of Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments) has announced that Caitlin Gubbels has been promoted to senior managing director and global head of Private Equity, effective October 15.
In her new role, Gubbels will join the senior management team and lead CPP Investments’ global Private Equity program. She will oversee teams dedicated to Direct Private Equity, Private Equity Asia, and Private Equity Funds and Secondaries.
Gubbels succeeds Suyi Kim, who is departing CPP Investments after 17 years to pursue new global investment leadership opportunities.
During her tenure, Kim significantly contributed to the organization’s success, including establishing CPP Investments' presence in the Asia Pacific region by opening the Hong Kong office in 2008.
More recently, she led the global Private Equity business out of Toronto and New York, growing it into one of the largest and most respected in the world.
Gubbels joined CPP Investments in 2010 and has been a key player in the growth of the organization’s private equity investments. Most recently, she worked as managing director and head of Funds, leading the Private Equity Funds business.
Before joining CPP Investments, she worked in investment banking at CIBC World Markets in Toronto. Gubbels holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Dalhousie University.
John Graham expressed his confidence in Gubbels, stating, “[She] has been instrumental in our private equity successes over the past 14 years. Her ability to build relationships and drive returns across various private equity opportunities makes her the ideal candidate for this expanded leadership role.”
Graham also acknowledged Kim’s contributions, saying, “[Kim] has been a valuable partner and advisor on the senior management team. Her leadership has played a crucial role in the success of our Private Equity program. We deeply appreciate her service and wish her the best in her future endeavours.”
