OMERS names Alexander Fraser as global head of private equity, following changes in its investment strategy

OMERS has appointed Alexander Fraser as executive vice president and global head of Private Equity.
Fraser previously worked at 65 Equity Partners, where he was a founding partner of a multibillion-dollar global private equity initiative backed by Singapore’s Temasek Holdings.
Before that, he was a partner at Bridgepoint Group, where he co-led technology investments and managed relationships with select US-based limited partners.
He also spent about 16 years at GI Partners in San Francisco in various investment roles.
“[Fraser] is a growth-focused leader, with deep experience in leading strong teams and building businesses, having had much success with top global firms,” said Chief Investment Officer Ralph Berg.
“This is an exciting time for private equity, and the current investment landscape offers new and diverse opportunities for growth. Under [his] leadership, I am confident we will continue to build on the strong foundation of our private equity business.”
Fraser expressed enthusiasm about his new role, stating that he looks forward to collaborating with OMERS’ investment professionals to drive growth and create long-term value for portfolio companies.
He will take over the role on March 17, succeeding Michael Graham, who retired earlier this year. Fraser will be based in New York and will report to Berg.
OMERS Private Equity manages about $27.5bn in assets and recorded a 10-year average net return of 9.2 percent through the end of 2024.
The pension fund has made changes to its private equity investment strategy, including halting direct private equity investments in Europe last year. Instead, it has shifted to investing alongside partners and third-party managers.
OMERS also established a global funds strategy within its newly formed Private Capital group.
