CPKC workers vote 99% for strike mandate as negotiations with Unifor set to resume on January 24
Unifor members at Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railway (CPKC) have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a strike mandate, with 99 percent supporting potential action if negotiations fail.
BNN Bloomberg reports that the union, representing over 1,200 mechanical shop workers who inspect and maintain locomotives and freight cars, seeks to secure a fair agreement with the railway.
Unifor’s national president, Lana Payne, stated that members are united in their demands for job security, fair wages, work ownership, and better working conditions.
“Our members are standing together to ensure their rights and contributions are recognized in this bargaining process,” Payne said.
Negotiations between the union and CPKC are scheduled to resume in Calgary on January 24.
If no agreement is reached, the union has authorized strike action to begin at 12:01 am ET on January 29.
The strike mandate underscores workers’ readiness to take action if their demands are not met, as Unifor continues to push for a resolution.
