The investment boosts Habitat's growth and digital transformation in environmental services
The Fonds de solidarité FTQ has announced its pioneering investment in the biodiversity sector, committing $3.5m to Habitat, an innovative company that specializes in environmental services.
This investment is a key milestone for the Fonds, advancing its objective to reach $12bn in sustainable assets. It also sets the stage for Habitat's next phase of growth, empowering the company to enhance its expertise in biodiversity-focused analytical services and to pursue its digital transformation.
The investment from the Fonds de solidarité FTQ will enable Habitat to solidify its position in the market and expand its reach.
Jérôme Dupras, co-founder, and CEO of Habitat, expressed gratitude for the support from the Fonds de solidarité FTQ, stating, “Thanks to the Fonds' support, Habitat will be able to continue growing and remain a leading biodiversity expert in Québec.”
He highlighted the significance of partnering with an investor that demonstrates a commitment to sustainability through actionable steps.
“Our aim is to contribute to a greener, healthier future for our ecosystems and for Québec, and we believe the Fonds is the ideal partner to help us achieve these goals,” Dupras added.
Christian G. Brosseau, vice-president, private equity, and impact investing - strategic capital, energy, environment, and technology at the Fonds de solidarité FTQ, remarked on the investment's alignment with the Fonds' vision for a sustainable future for Québec.
“The addition of Habitat to the Fonds' portfolio is proof once again of our pledge to help Québec build a sustainable future. We are proud to announce our first investment in biodiversity,” Brosseau said.
He concluded by emphasizing the Fonds' readiness to support Habitat in accessing new markets, indicating a strategic and supportive partnership aimed at enhancing Québec's biodiversity and sustainability efforts.
Habitat was established in 2017 to address the pressing issues of biodiversity and climate change. The company was founded by a trio of university professors, including Jérôme Dupras from the Université du Québec en Outaouais.
Dupras holds the Canada Research Chair in Ecological Economics and has recently been named co-holder of the UNESCO Chair in Socio-Economic Evaluation of Biodiversity and Ecosystems.
